A study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology suggests that sleeping less than 6 hours a night may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and atherosclerosis. The research, which involved tracking 4,000 Spanish adults using coronary ultrasound and CT scans, found that those with poor sleep quality or less sleep were more likely to develop atherosclerosis. Women who slept more than 8 hours also showed increased risk. While the study couldn't establish causation, it highlighted significant associations between sleep patterns and cardiovascular health.
