Thomas Edison and the Invention of the Long-Lasting Light Bulb

In 1878, Thomas Edison aimed to create a practical electric light to replace gas lamps. Although not the first to invent electric light, Edison improved upon existing designs by developing a long-lasting incandescent bulb using a carbon filament. He later enhanced it with carbonized bamboo, allowing it to burn for 1,200 hours. Edison also established a power delivery system, opening the first commercial electric power station in New York City in 1882. His companies eventually merged to form General Electric. Edison's innovations made him famous and wealthy, revolutionizing electric lighting.
