The Venezuelan Supreme Court supported the dismissal of opposition deputy María Corina Machado, citing her role as an alternate representative for Panama at the OAS as incompatible with her legislative duties. Machado, a prominent opposition figure, called the move political persecution and planned to attend the National Assembly with fellow opposition deputies. Meanwhile, the Venezuelan government expressed openness to mediation by the Vatican or UNASUR amid ongoing protests that have resulted in 39 deaths. Although protests have lessened, clashes between radical protesters and security forces continue in Chacao, Caracas.
