During Napoleon's Egyptian campaign, an officer discovered the Rosetta Stone at Fort Julian. This granite slab, with inscriptions in hieroglyphic, demotic, and Greek, was key to deciphering Egyptian hieroglyphics. Despite the conflict, copies were sent to European scholars. The stone, inscribed with a decree from 196 BCE by King Ptolemy V, is now displayed at the British Museum.
