Despite the victory, it came at a high cost of lives. The enemy faced a complete defeat, with mercenaries surrendering. In their attack, they attempted to deceive by using the Cuban national emblem. However, their efforts were thwarted, as evidenced by the destruction of an American B-26 bomber before it could reach the coast.
