A Reluctant Rodeo Queen by Vernice Walker

The story follows a young girl's journey to becoming a rodeo queen, despite her initial reluctance and fear. Her father builds a rodeo ground and chooses her to represent their community club. Through practice and support from her cousin, she overcomes her fear and successfully rides a wild horse, gaining confidence and proving her capabilities.
