Swans are large, intelligent birds found worldwide except in Africa and Antarctica. They have six species, mostly with white feathers, and can have up to 25,000 feathers. Swans prefer lakes and rivers, where they build nests and feed on greenery, insects, and tadpoles. They mate for life, and their young, called cygnets, stay with their mothers for six months. Swans can fly up to 60 mph and are generally peaceful but protective of their nests. After scaring off predators, they celebrate with other swans. Swans are fascinating creatures with unique behaviors.
