Who Is? Kamala Harris

Kamala Harris is the 49th vice president of the United States, marking several historic firsts as the first woman, first Black person, and first South Asian-American to hold the position. Born in Oakland, California, Harris began her career in law as Oakland's deputy district attorney in 1990. She quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the first woman and first Black person elected as California's attorney general in 2010. Her political career continued to ascend as she became the first Indian-American elected to the US Senate in 2016. Although she sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, she later became Joe Biden's running mate, making history again as the first Black woman on a major party's national ticket.
