VOICED : Organized crime recruits migrants

Migrants traveling through Mexico face numerous challenges, including extortion and kidnapping by corrupt authorities and criminal groups. Increasingly, they are being recruited by drug cartels, often due to economic desperation. Many migrants are forced to choose between joining these criminal organizations or facing violence and poverty. Gangs control large areas and impose taxes on migrants, making their journey even more perilous. Despite these challenges, some migrants resist involvement in crime, but the lack of alternatives makes it difficult for many.
