Landmarks - Gran Saposoa Discovery

Explorers in Peru's Amazon jungle uncovered an ancient city, possibly home to 10,000 people, dating back 1300 years. The city, part of the Chachapoya culture later conquered by the Incas, features well-preserved graveyards and intricate carvings. The 2004 El Dorado expedition expanded understanding of the Grand Saposoa, the oldest Chachapoyas settlement. The Chachapoyas, known for their unique burial practices, were described by Spanish conquistadors as a fair-skinned warrior tribe.
