Amazon halts police use of its facial recognition technology

Amazon has banned police use of its facial recognition tool for a year. Studies by MIT Media Lab show that facial recognition tools are prone to errors, especially with people of color. Amazon's tool mislabeled women of color as men 31% of the time, while Microsoft's error rate was 1.5%. Amazon, Google, and IBM have exited the law enforcement facial recognition market, leaving Clearview AI as a major player.
