Containment

After WWII, the US faced a choice between international cooperation and isolationism. Opting for engagement, the US adopted the containment policy to curb Soviet influence. The Truman Doctrine, collective security, and atomic diplomacy were key tactics. NSC-68 recommended stockpiling nuclear weapons, leading to the Cuban Missile Crisis. The Cold War ended in 1991 with the Soviet Union's collapse.
