VOICED : Sobreviviente de los Andes desarrolla ventiladores mecánicos para hospitales uruguayos

Roberto Canessa, a survivor of the 1972 Andes plane crash, is now a pediatric cardiologist. Motivated by the COVID-19 pandemic, he developed a mechanical ventilator called Charúa, inspired by an Israeli device. Collaborating with medical and robotics experts, he created a more advanced version named Genoa. These ventilators, tested in a public university's neonatology lab, are cost-effective and funded by private donors. If approved, they could support hospitals in Uruguay during COVID-19 surges.
