Hurricane Patricia, a Category 5 storm, struck the Pacific coast of Mexico near Jalisco with sustained winds of 260 km/h. Despite a slight decrease in intensity, it remained a powerful threat. Tourists unable to leave the impact area took refuge in Red Cross facilities. Authorities issued maximum alerts for potential catastrophic effects, evacuating hundreds of thousands, including 28,000 tourists, from Puerto Vallarta. The government closed ports and planned power cuts. Before reaching Mexico, Patricia had record-breaking winds of 325 km/h.
