Airbus inaugurated its first US assembly plant in Mobile, Alabama, aiming to compete with Boeing. The plant will produce A320 aircraft, with plans to manufacture 40-50 planes annually by 2018. Airbus seeks to reduce costs and offer competitive pricing, leveraging Alabama's low minimum wage. The plant currently employs 260 people, with plans to expand to 1,000. This is Airbus's second plant outside Europe, following one in China, as it targets the lucrative US market amid airline fleet renewals.
