Venezuelan newspapers are facing a crisis due to a shortage of paper, which is partly attributed to currency control issues and a government strategy to suppress opposition media. The government is accused of attacking independent journalism by restricting access to dollars needed for paper imports. While pro-government media acknowledge the crisis, they blame bureaucratic inefficiencies. The government suspects some newspapers of reselling imported paper on the black market. Without a resolution, paper reserves may run out in 60 days, halting newspaper production.
