Dr. Yvette Faye Francis Mcbarnett was a pioneering figure in the treatment of sickle cell anemia, a genetic blood disorder affecting millions globally. Born in Jamaica and raised in New York, she was a prodigy, starting college at 14 and later attending Yale School of Medicine. Her innovative use of antibiotics for sickle cell anemia treatment was ahead of its time. She co-founded the Foundation for Research and Education in Sickle Cell Disease and influenced the 1972 National Sickle Cell Anemia Control Act. Dr. Mcbarnett was married with six children and passed away in 2016 at 89.
