Study estimates the amount of microplastics consumed by humans

The University of Newcastle, Australia, reports that humans consume about 2000 microplastic pieces weekly, equating to five grams or a credit card's weight. These particles, smaller than 5 millimeters, accumulate to 21 grams monthly, comparable to a hanger's weight. Over six months, this amounts to 125 grams, filling a cereal bowl. Annually, this consumption reaches 250 grams, or a dinner plate's worth. Over a lifetime, humans ingest approximately 20 kilograms of microplastics, akin to the weight of two recycling bins.
