Between 2011 and 2016, 94 detention facilities closed due to lower crime rates, lack of funding, and poor prisoner treatment. These facilities are now being repurposed for various uses, including housing for homeless people, educational farms, and even movie studios. One facility is being transformed into a mini Hollywood with 120,000 square feet of stages. Notably, parts of 'Orange Is the New Black' and 'Ocean's 8' were filmed at repurposed prisons.
