Despite leaving the Dominican Republic at 18 to study fashion in Spain, he maintained strong ties to his homeland, serving as an ambassador and supporting local causes. In 1984, he adopted a baby from the orphanage, naming him Moisés, who later followed in his footsteps as a designer. The Dominican government declared a national mourning upon Oscar's death, acknowledging his irreplaceable legacy.
