María de Jesús Patricio, known as Marichuy, is an indigenous woman aspiring to run for the Mexican presidency in 2018. Her candidacy challenges the prevalent machismo and racism in the country. Marichuy's goal is not to win the presidency but to use the platform to advocate for indigenous peoples and their territories. Supported by the Zapatista Army and the National Indigenous Congress, she aims to gather a million signatures to ratify her candidacy.
