Cuban students celebrated the US abstention in a UN vote against the embargo on Cuba. Although diplomatic relations between the US and Cuba were restored in 2015, full financial and commercial ties require US Congress approval. The US ambassador to the UN clarified that abstention does not imply agreement with all Cuban policies, but emphasized the need for both nations to find common ground.
