Residents along the Mexican Pacific coast are preparing for Hurricane Patricia, a category 5 storm expected to hit Puerto Vallarta. Authorities have closed major and minor navigation in several states. The U.S. National Hurricane Center has labeled Patricia the strongest hurricane recorded in the northeast Pacific. Mexico is prone to hurricanes from May to November on both coasts. In 2013, hurricanes Manuel and Ingrid caused significant damage and casualties.
