Why Do Tornadoes Hate America?

Tornadoes, while occurring globally, are predominantly an American phenomenon, with 65-80% of them happening in the US, especially in Tornado Alley. This region, between the Rocky and Appalachian Mountains, provides ideal conditions for tornado formation due to the presence of moist air from the Gulf of Mexico, a convection cap, and cold air from the Rockies. Tornadoes often form from supercell thunderstorms, which have a rotating updraft called a mesocyclone. The unique geography of Tornado Alley, with its mid-latitude position and mountain ranges, makes it particularly susceptible to tornadoes.
