51 Pegasi B, discovered in 1995 at Oak Province Observatory, is the first exoplanet found orbiting a main sequence star. Known as a 'hot Jupiter', it has a mass nearly half that of Jupiter and is located 50 light years away in the constellation Pegasus. Discovered by Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz, who won a Nobel Prize for their work, 51 Pegasi B is named Domidium. It is much closer to its star than Mercury is to the Sun, resulting in high temperatures. The planet is thought to be tidally locked to its star, similar to how the Moon is to Earth.
