In Rio de Janeiro, bottled water demand has surged due to concerns over the quality of water supplied by CEDAE. Issues began with geosmin contamination, causing the water to appear turbid and smell unpleasant. Further complications arose when detergent was found in the water sources feeding the Guandú treatment plant, leading to its temporary closure. As a result, many residents have turned to bottled mineral water for safety. Although CEDAE has resumed water extraction and aims to normalize supply, convincing consumers of the water's quality remains challenging.
