Following the Vienna Award, which redrew borders between Hungary and Romania, the Hungarian military began its entry into Transylvania on September 5. This region had been vacated by Romanian forces and was previously lost by Hungary under the Treaty of Trianon. Admiral Horthy led the troops, and the Hungarian forces were warmly welcomed by the local population.
