In California, 50,000 people were evacuated due to wildfires near Santa Clarita, leading to school closures and highway shutdowns. Additional fires erupted in Southern and Northern California, exacerbated by high temperatures and low humidity. A red alert was issued for areas housing 18 million people. Preventive power cuts were implemented, and Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in Sonoma and Los Angeles counties, which are still recovering from deadly fires in 2017 and 2018.
