Cooley, a warrior from Ulster, faces Queen Maeve's army to protect the Brown Bull. Despite invoking single combat, he is troubled by the prospect of fighting his friend Ferdian, who is on the opposing side. After a fierce battle, Cooley uses a magical spear to defeat Ferdian. Queen Maeve seizes the opportunity to capture the Brown Bull, leading to a battle between the bulls. The Brown Bull wins but dies of heartbreak, leaving the land ravaged by war.
