Big Ben To Be Stopped For Urgent Repairs

The Elizabeth Tower, home to Big Ben, is undergoing a £29 million refurbishment starting in January. The project includes servicing the clock mechanism, repairing structural damage, and upgrading the lighting to energy-efficient LEDs. The tower's aesthetic issues, such as water damage and rust, will also be addressed. Scaffolding will take six months to erect, and the entire project is expected to last three years. The bell will remain operational during key events like Remembrance Day and New Year's Eve.
