Irena Sendler VERTICAL - One Minute History

Irena Sendler, a Polish Catholic social worker, played a crucial role during World War II by rescuing Jewish children from the Warsaw Ghetto. Using her position in the Welfare Department, she forged documents to provide new identities for the children. Despite being arrested by Nazi forces in 1943, she was released due to the efforts of underground activists. After the war, Sendler continued her work in social services and was nominated for the Nobel Prize in 2007. She passed away in 2008, leaving behind a legacy of courage and compassion.
