The Germans halted their advance, allowing the Royal Navy to prepare for evacuation. Operation Dynamo began on May 26th, with French forces enduring heavy attacks. By June 4th, the Nazis took control of Dunkirk, but 338,000 men were rescued in 11 days with the help of civilian vessels.
