The Mayflower set sail from England in 1620, aiming for the New World. Despite its iconic status, little is known about the ship itself. After its North American voyage, the ship's fate remains a mystery. Initially chartered by the Merchant Adventurers for the fur trade, the Mayflower also carried Pilgrims seeking religious freedom. Bad weather diverted the ship from its intended destination near the Hudson River, leading to its landing in Plymouth, where the settlers established a new home.
