Polonium suspected in death of Arafat: reports

Polonium 210 is a naturally occurring radioactive element found in low concentrations in the environment. It is highly radioactive and chemically toxic. Polonium 210 decays to lead 206, emitting alpha particles that travel only a few centimeters in air and can be stopped by paper. These particles are hard to detect but pose a deadly hazard if ingested, causing symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting, reduced white blood cells, and hair loss. External exposure is not a risk as the radiation cannot penetrate the skin.
