The Bureau of Prisons (BOP) has implemented a lockdown for the first time in nearly 25 years due to nationwide protests following George Floyd's death. This measure is not a response to events at its facilities but aims to ensure the safety of staff and inmates across 122 institutions. Previously, a modified lockdown was in place to curb COVID-19 spread, with over 1900 inmates testing positive and more than 70 deaths.
