The fires, fueled by heatwaves and strong winds, have led to evacuations and fatalities. A retired woman, previously displaced by a wildfire, now faces the added challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic. Evacuees are housed in subsidized hotel rooms due to health concerns, with over 600 people relocated recently. More than 14,000 firefighters are battling 28 fires across California, which has seen over a million hectares burned this year, setting a new record with months of dry season remaining.
