Saving Water In Dry Areas

The USDA, through its Natural Resources Conservation Service, is funding a three-year project to promote water conservation in drier regions of the U.S. The project, managed by the North Plains Groundwater Conservation District and Texas Tech University, aims to demonstrate how strategic irrigation and crop management can save water. Nearly $500,000 in grant money will support farmers, researchers, and other groups in testing water-saving practices, particularly in areas relying on the Ogallala Aquifer. The goal is to reduce water usage while maintaining crop yields, thereby preserving the aquifer for future generations. This initiative is part of 52 grants awarded nationwide by the USDA NRCS.
