The Slave Who Mailed Himself To Freedom

Henry Box Brown escaped slavery by mailing himself in a box from Virginia to Philadelphia. After losing his family, he devised a daring plan with the help of abolitionists. His escape brought him fame, but also criticism for revealing his method. Brown became an advocate against slavery, later moving to England to avoid capture under the Fugitive Slave Law. He eventually returned to North America, settling in Canada, where he lived until his death.
