Red Vienna - Stuff That I Find Interesting

After WWI, parts of Central Europe, including Vienna, saw a rise in socialism. Vienna, known as Red Vienna, implemented significant socialist reforms, such as housing projects and social welfare, funded by taxes on luxury goods. However, the rest of Austria remained conservative and religious. Vienna faced challenges like a housing crisis, the Spanish flu, and hyperinflation, which weakened its economy. Ultimately, these factors, combined with political shifts, led to its downfall when Hitler annexed Austria in the 1930s.
