Whitby, a town in Yorkshire, was once known as Strina's Hulk. It gained its current name from the Danes. The town is notable for its shipbuilding history, including the ships used by Captain Cook to discover Australia. Cook also worked as a haberdasher's apprentice in Whitby. Additionally, Cademan, the first known English poet, lived in Whitby 1,300 years ago. He composed poems that were transcribed by monks, claiming they were inspired by ghostly voices, which some believe can still be heard in the abbey ruins.
