Maria Butina Released From Prison, To Be Deported To Russia

Maria Butina, who admitted to conspiring with a senior Russian official to influence US politics, was released from a low-security federal prison earlier than expected due to a change in good behavior time calculation. She was arrested in 2018 and pleaded guilty to acting as a foreign agent without registering with the US government. Butina was sentenced to 18 months in prison, including time served. Following her release, she was transferred to ICE custody for immediate deportation to Russia.
