The Everglades, a vast marshland ecosystem in Florida, is part of interconnected ecosystems including swamps and forests. Over the last century, human development has severely impacted its health, leading to a costly and lengthy restoration plan. The Everglades formed 5000 years ago post-Ice Age, with diverse ecosystems flourishing. Colonization led to significant transformation due to demands for land and resources, resulting in drainage and flood control systems. Within 50 years, over half of the Everglades was altered.
