The Cambodian elections saw a united opposition but failed to unseat the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP), led by Hun Sen, who has been in power for 28 years. Despite claims of electoral irregularities, the CPP won 68 out of 123 seats, though fewer than in 2008. Opposition leader Sam Rainsy, who returned from exile, rejected the results, citing unfair practices. Although some violence occurred post-election, normalcy returned to Phnom Penh. The official results are pending, but Hun Sen is expected to remain in power until at least 2018.
