The election was marked by intense mudslinging, with personal attacks on both candidates. Jackson's grassroots campaign led to his victory, signaling a shift towards Jacksonian Democracy. The election also marked the beginning of the Second Party System. Tragically, Rachel Jackson died shortly after the election, and Jackson blamed the Adams campaign. Jackson's inauguration was celebrated with a large public party at the White House.
