'I got the bug': Navy veteran has been one of Santa's helpers for nearly 50 years

Garrett Vile has dedicated nearly 50 years to spreading joy as one of Santa's helpers in Grand Haven. His journey began unexpectedly when he stepped in to play Santa Claus during his time in the Navy. Embracing the role, Vile grew out his beard and became known for his Santa persona, even wearing Hawaiian shirts with Santa motifs. He makes 20 to 25 appearances each holiday season, never charging for his services, and finds immense joy in bringing happiness to others. Vile's sister also joined him as Mrs. Claus until her passing. His story highlights the spirit of giving and the joy of spreading happiness during the holiday season.
