Immune discovery could be universal cure to cancer

Researchers have identified a mechanism in the immune system that could treat various cancers. A study in Nature Immunology reveals that T cells can be engineered to target prostate, breast, lung, and other cancers in lab settings. T cells, a type of lymphocyte, can search and destroy threats like infections and cancers. Cardiff University found a type of T cell with a unique receptor that detects almost all cancer cells. Scientists may isolate T cells from a cancer patient, reprogram them with a harmless virus to grow special receptors, and reintroduce them to fight cancer. These T cells can ignore healthy cells and attack cancerous tissues, including tumors.
