John Lewis Memorial To Replace Confederate Monument

A new memorial for John Lewis is being erected in Georgia, where Confederate monuments once stood. The monument will be located outside the DeKalb County Courthouse, replacing a Confederate monument removed last January. Other similar monuments have also been taken down by local leaders and protesters. The design of the Lewis memorial is still undecided, but there is a movement to depict him in his youth, highlighting his civil rights work alongside Martin Luther King Jr.
