Conservation Efforts to Protect Coral Reefs in Lake Tanga, Malaysia

Tourists are flocking to Lake Tanga for a relaxed snorkeling and diving experience, avoiding crowded resorts on nearby islands. However, the rise in tourism raises concerns about coral reef damage. In response, the Coral Reef Conservation Alliance, in collaboration with Malaysia's Marine Parks Department, is actively transplanting coral to restore affected areas. On Earth Day, 40 divers participated in a coral transplantation event. Two promising techniques include using epoxy cement for grafting and electrolysis to form mineral coatings on artificial structures. The sensitivity of coral species to transplantation is also highlighted.
