The French oil company Total has signed a 20-year agreement to invest in Iran, representing an international consortium that includes the China National Petroleum Corporation. This deal, worth $2 billion, aims to develop the Parsaud offshore gas field. The agreement is expected to resolve many doubts foreign companies had about investing in Iran. Total is the first Western oil group to reinvest in Iran since the 2015 nuclear deal, which lifted many international sanctions. However, the US government under President Trump has criticized the deal and is considering new sanctions against Iran, accusing it of supporting international terrorism.
