In February 2016, Muhammad Anis ventured out in rebel-controlled Aleppo to check on his classic car collection. He owned about 20 vintage cars, many of which were destroyed during the city's battle. Anis felt a deep connection to his cars, likening their destruction to losing family. By December 2016, the Syrian army had retaken Aleppo, and Anis had fled two months prior. He returned occasionally to see his cars, now in poor condition, and found solace in his pipe and gramophone. Despite hardships, Anis remains hopeful and plans to restore his cars, intending to pass them on to his descendants.
